It is important that teachers are willing to work within the framework of IH’s system of academic standards and quality management. IH’s methodology is communicative and teachers are expected to plan lessons that are dynamic and student-centered. A familiarity with classroom technology is a must as is a commitment to customer service and client satisfaction. All teachers are frequently observed and given supportive feedback via both oral and written summaries. Teaching is very much a team activity and IH focuses on sharing experiences.
IH Saudi Arabia has minimum recruitment standards with a core requirement of a first degree and CELTA, or a CELTA equivalent. This excludes qualifications earned purely online that therefore have no practical teaching component. Having said that, there are certain operations where it might be possible, in exceptional circumstances, for a teacher to join IH Saudi Arabia providing they are willing to take part in active in-service training while booking a CELTA course at the earliest opportunity.
For much of IH Saudi Arabia’s work, however, qualifications and significant experience are required. Teachers may be expected to work in vocational training centers, local colleges, or with colleagues already embedded in Saudi industry.
IH Saudi Arabia’s work is extremely broad in scope, from teaching Technical English at a remote location for a group of engineers to giving evening classes to school students. IH Saudi Arabia will always try to match a prospective teacher’s profile to available opportunities.
It is also important to note that while IH Saudi Arabia is an equal opportunities employer, certain projects not only state the required qualifications and experience required but also state further criteria according to nationality, gender, and age.
For those who won’t just teach with us online from partners abroad, but will come to Saudi Arabia to work, while IH Saudi Arabia teaches all over the Kingdom, we can never guarantee that an instructor will be deployed to a specific location, unfortunately.
Teachers are mostly CELTA qualified at the time of application and in possession of a first degree. While most will have some teaching experience, this is not always the case. There are yet others who have been teaching for many years, even decades, who have come to IH Saudi Arabia interested in working for our high-profile clients. There is also, naturally, a type of instructor who finds himself attracted by the cultural and travel opportunities in the Kingdom and among those are a group interested in learning Arabic in a highly authentic setting.
It should be said for the sake of clarification, that while IH Saudi Arabia welcomes married teachers, including those with families, recent changes to the Saudi governmental fees associated with dependent visas and a relative rise in living costs means that we are not encouraging teachers to resettle wholesale in the Kingdom along with their families.
In general then and for a variety of reasons, the average teacher with IH Saudi Arabia is a male from a wide range of backgrounds employed on a single work visa for a set duration while his age will fall between the ranges of 25-55. It is, however, always important to remember that instructors are individuals and that no two teachers are ever entirely the same while online training has added even wider diversity.
Contracts for in-country teaching are between 3 months to 1 year with the possibility of renewal in certain cases.
All contracts are single status unless otherwise stated. Accommodation, medical insurance, visa costs, return flight to country of origin, and a transportation allowance are all part of the standard package. However, IH Saudi Arabia is not liable for any dependents’ fees, alternative accommodation that families might need or any other requirements such as: medical insurance, school fees, or collateral costs associated with relocating families to Saudi Arabia including visas and air tickets. Except where clients provide this accommodation, for example in certain locations, IH instructors are generally not based on compounds.
IH Saudi Arabia offers a special package for those who need financial support in order to pay off the costs of CELTA.
As CELTA fees and associated accommodation costs rise in the main teacher training centers in Europe’s already expensive cities, IH Saudi Arabia is reaching out to give new teachers a helping hand into the English teaching profession: Trainee teachers can now come to Saudi Arabia where they can pay for their CELTA courses by working with us. There isn’t only a financial incentive to do this through a salary, free accommodation and air tickets but also a major professional dividend as new teachers gain invaluable experience that will make their CELTA courses that much easier.
